Body Composition:

Which Morph is your body type?

William Herbert Sheldon took pictures of 46,000 men and women to come up with his system for classifying body types. His method of classification is widely cited and used throughout the fitness industry. He identified 88 categories. To keep things simple, he grouped them into three main categories.

  • Endomorph: Generally round and short in stature. People in this group tend to have more fat cells than those in the other two groups.

  • Mesomorph: These muscular people tend to add muscle easily and have wide shoulders, small waists, and low levels of body fat. IE: A Running Back in Football or a competition bodybuilder are mesomorphs.

  • Ectomorph: These people are tall and lanky, like NBA players. They have a tougher time adding muscle bulk. One way for these people to gain muscle mass is to consume more calories than the other two groups.
