Around this time of the year, I tend to get a lot of emails from people looking for guidance. I get really excited about everyone's ambition to start the new year on the right foot.
Unfortunately, many people give up on the first obstacle that they face...and by February half of the people fall off the wagon and go back to their lifestyle.
My goal in the beginning of each year is to help people turn that spark of motivation into a solid foundation of positive self belief.
So how do you do this?
Remember this- your self belief dictates your thoughts. The thoughts you have translates to what you talk about to others and yourself. How you communicate basically dictates the actions you carry out, actions turn into habits and habits sets up your life.
If you want to change your life, you have to change your belief system. That's the root of it all.
When I work with clients at the Studio, there are a few techniques I use to help increase the chances to keep them on track with their goals. Establish these 10 tips and you'll improve your chances of achieving your goals this next year:
1.) Break down your main goal into daily goals.
2.) Establish a time you're going to accomplish your daily goals-everyday (ie: if it's to eat more greens, then make sure you schedule what and when you'll eat it)
3.) If weight loss is one of your goals, be sure to track at least 3 days of your calorie intake and take notes on how much you're eating and what you're eating. This is key in making the right changes. "Lose it" is a great app for this.
4.) Learn to give up things that don't help you towards your goals (ie: avoid late night TV if you have to wake up early)
5.) Give yourself a small time frame to keep your daily goals going---start with 7 days, then 3 weeks, then 30 days. Establish small rewards every time you hit a milestone successfully.
6.) Help others succeed in their goals. The law of reciprocity will reward you!
7.) Cherish every small daily victory. Instead of aiming for the big picture, be mindful and grateful for the small victory accomplished.
8.) Whenever you think about giving up, remember why you started in the first place.
9.) Envision success and model those that have achieved it.
10.) Small sacrifices may be needed, but they are worth it. Don't let the naysayers bring you down to mediocrity. Be patient and keep going strong!
Plan your goals, believe, cherish the small daily victories and make it happen!
